Planning News: New Sports Hub Approved

We are pleased to announce that the proposal for the new Sports Hub has been approved by Surrey Heath Borough Council’s Planning Committee. This approval marks a significant milestone in our journey towards creating an inclusive and active community environment at Mindenhurst.

Strategically positioned in the northern part of the development, above Dettingen Park, the Sports Hub is set to become one of the central activity centres within Mindenhurst, catering to residents of all ages and varying skill levels.

The hub will feature an array of sports facilities including, senior and junior football pitches, a cricket field, tennis courts, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), neighbourhood equipped area of play (NEAP), a car park, and an outdoor gym trail.

The Sports Hub will also feature a brand-new Sports Pavilion. This facility will provide a club room including bar/kitchen amenities, changing facilities, and storage for sports equipment. We have submitted plans for the Pavilion to Surrey Heath Borough Council and look forward to sharing more positive updates soon.

Easter Fun on the Village Green

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our Easter Scavenger Hunt last Friday despite the unpredictable weather! We were thrilled that so many families came along to take part.

During the event we had over 60 children hunting around the village green, finding hidden springtime pictures and earning chocolate eggs. We also made pinecone bird feeder, which was a little messy but lots of fun.

We hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did hosting this event.

Celebrating World Book Day

In celebration of World Book Day, we visited Blackdown Pre-School to read construction themed stories with our youngest community members. We really enjoyed our visit, where we not only got to share our love of books, but hopefully sparked curiosity about the world of construction.

To mark the day, we have added new books to our community library located in the entrance to our Project Office on Newfoundland Road. The library is open from 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri so feel free to stop by to borrow a book or even drop off those you no longer need.

We also carefully selected a variety of books from the library to donate to Camberly Manor Care Home. We would like to thank every who has generously donated books to our library, enabling us to spread the joy of reading!

Over the past few weeks we’ve been following Hiten, to understand more about his role as Technical Assurance Manager.

MindenhurstMindenhurst
Introducing Hiten

As a Technical Assurance Manager, I make sure all our work is compliant and the team is kept safe. I split my time between two roles: Design Manager/ Coordinator, and Temporary Works Coordinator. This means that I coordinate work and information between teams, and ensure projects run smoothly and safely.

I have worked for Skanska for nearly 14 years and joined Mindenhurst in 2018.

MindenhurstMindenhurst
Design Manager

I act as a critical eye to the team, ensuring all our work is compliant. We work with a range of experts from utilities to landscaping, making sure our plans line up and do the job we need before submitting a planning application.
I’ve supported applications for major projects at Mindenhurst such as the new Loop Road and the DIO upgrade works.
Being a Design Manager on the Mindenhurst Development has been an incredible journey for me.

One of the things I enjoy the most about my job is collaborating with the design team to review designs, brainstorm ideas, and ultimately find the best design solutions. It is really rewarding to see our designs being constructed on site, which ultimately improve and transform the built environment

Careers in Construction

The best part of working in construction is seeing the positive impact of our work.
I studied Civil Engineering at university and joined Skanska as a placement student ahead of starting full time after graduating in 2010.
I’ve enjoyed great opportunities with Skanska. Before Mindenhurst, I worked on a 35-storey building known as The Scalpel in London, one of my favourites!

I would highly recommend working in construction since it’s an industry that offers endless variety. There’s never a dull moment as you get the opportunity to
work on different projects and face unique challenges. But what truly sets it apart is the opportunity to work with amazing teams of people who are passionate about what they do. From design to construction, you get to witness the full process unfold and be a part of bringing ideas to life.

Ensuring Safety

Recently, we’ve been renovating the exterior of St. Barbara’s Church. My role, as a Technical Assurance Manager was to ensure the safety of the project. We required scaffolding, which was designed by a third party company and checked by our in-house engineering specialists, Skanska Tech.  I made sure the project was delivered correctly on the ground.

At Mindenhurst, I am one of the Injury Free Environment Trainers. Maintaining an Injury Free Environment is a priority for the team. All members of staff, and trade contractors must take part in our training to protect the physical and mental wellbeing of the entire team. We aim to create an Injury Free Environment (IFE) in which nobody is harmed, it encourages us to look out for one another, so we all go home safely at the end of the day

Considerate Constructors

Top marks for Mindenhurst

We were delighted to accept a Certificate of Excellence from the Considerate Constructor Scheme after their last visit to the Mindenhurst Development.

Specific highlights identified by CCS were:

Respect the community: The site continues to have well established and comprehensive community engagement procedures. Recently held “Surrey Feeling Good Week” to further engage with the community.

Care for the Environment: The site is fully aware of the importance of promoting the actions necessary to achieve NetZero carbon to both the operatives and the community.

Value their workforce: The site continues to provide an inclusive environment which promotes and demonstrates gender equality, amplifying the progress of women within their organisation. Also, the impact of Neurodiversity relative to diversity and inclusion. All continue to be given high prominence.

The CSS monitor said: “This is the fourteenth visit to this extensive development which continues to leave an excellent impression of the industry and aims of the Scheme”.

It’s an amazing achievement by the team at Mindenhurst that demonstrates their commitment to the highest standards in delivery of the programme of works.

Christmas Elves in the Central SANG

Calling all Elf Detectives

We have heard reports that playful Christmas Elves are heading to the Central SANGs again from 8th to 21st December.

We need some help checking up on them to make sure they are not getting into too much mischief. So why not have a festive walk through the Central SANGs and see who you spot playing in the trees!

The elves mentioned that they love receiving letters. If you would like to send them a letter or a drawing, they would certainly write back and send a little Christmas gift!

Please send letters to: The Christmas Elves, Mindenhurst Project Office, Newfoundland Road, Deepcut, GU16 6SR. Alternatively just send a photo of your letter to hello@mindenhurst.co.uk and we will pass it on.

Don’t forget to share pictures of your elf hunt with us on Facebook at Facebook/MindenhurstDeepcut.

Mindenhurst's Senior Project Manager wins award at annual National Building & Construction Awards

We’re proud to announce that our Senior Construction Manager, Carianne McIntosh, has won the Bronze Award for the Women in Construction award at this year’s National Building & Construction Awards.

As Senior Project Manager, Carianne has many different responsibilities across the site, including:

  • Planning and managing each stage of the project
  • Ensuring works are completed safely, to a good quality, within budget and on time
  • Organising the sequence of works and the workforce
  • Overseeing the delivery of the project
  • Coordinating with the commercial team
  • Evaluating each stage of the project to adapt the approach in real time to achieve better outcomes
  • Finding sustainable alternatives to everyday activities, reducing carbon production, traffic movements and more

In addition to her work as a Project Manager, Carianne is always working hard to look after the physical and mental wellbeing of our workforce, and she takes extra care to ensure the team are happy and healthy at work.

As a woman in construction, Carianne recognises the difficulties minority groups may face when entering the industry, and works hard to support those who have been deterred from entering the industry due to factors such as gender, disability, or neurodiversity. Following her own ADHD diagnosis, Carianne has also gone the extra mile to educate the wider team on good mental health including toolbox talks around topics such as stress, anxiety, suicide awareness and coping mechanisms. She also meets with other colleagues with similar struggles to share advice, support their personal development, and mentor them through their own mental health challenges.

We’re delighted to see Carianne’s hard work recognised!
