As part of Surrey County Council’s road improvement plans, Skanska has been asked to enlarge the roundabout that junctions the Maultway and Red Road. This update will accommodate the increased traffic flow through the area and will ensure that the future population of Mindenhurst will not impact the traffic flow through the area.
When the work is complete, the Maultway roundabout will be more than double the size, and the changes reduce the likelihood of dangerous driving on the roundabout.
The following are key points regarding these works:
Skanska has worked closely with the council to develop a scheme that facilitates traffic travelling in all directions at all times and will monitor the traffic to minimise the inconvenience caused to the public, although this means that the programme is extended.
As of 12 February, a four way traffic light system was installed to manage the traffic, keeping all exits safely open. These traffic lights are due to remain in place until the works finish at the end of April.
The lights will be manually controlled between the hours of 07:00-19:00, during which a spotter is located in the centre of the roundabout to see in every direction and assess the traffic. At present, Red Road has the heaviest flow of traffic and is therefore being prioritised.
Skanska are unable to work at night as this causes huge disturbances to the nearby residents during the night.
Part of the reason that the works are being done at this point in time is so that they are ongoing over half term and the Easter holidays, which reduces the impact on the educational system.
Please allow for extra time on your journey through this area as delays of up to 30 minutes are possible during peak hours.
Alternative routes to avoid the Maultway roundabout include travelling through Old Bisley Road to Frimley Road when travelling between Deepcut and Camberley. If travelling between Lightwater and Camberley we recommend diverting to Bagshot onto London Road. Between Lightwater and Deepcut/Frimley please travel through West End and Brookwood. Please note delays are still possible on these routes but won’t be as extensive as travelling through the Maultway.
Please note that Skanska are under an obligation to the local government to carry out the works as instructed.
